About me

I grew up surrounded by musical people; this led to me inheriting a passion for music. The acoustic guitar was the instrument that first introduced me to musical performance, but over the years I have expanded my musical range and now perform using my voice, bass and electric guitar. My love for music however did not come simply from playing guitar on my own but from jamming and performing with others.

Musical experiences

My first musical experiences were in a primary school guitar club with a broken old guitar my dad managed to fix and restring. Later, in secondary school, I played in an after-school music group called “Harrbottle’s folk group”, this was the gateway into my love for performing with others. During my time with this group we performed at multiple venues, the most memorable being the Devon county show. During my time in secondary school I also took Btec Music which involved forming a band and performing on several occasions. Most other experiences I’ve had  are just one form or another of jamming or playing with friends and family.

Musical influences

My largest influences tend to be people I know well such as friends and family. Perhaps the best example of this is my granddad, who set up and managed the recording studio at Coombeshead Collage (now Coombeshead Academy); due to this I was exposed to his recordings, music and unlimited supply of stories during my childhood. As a result I’ve develop a gregarious music taste and many musical associations which have in turn influenced me in their own ways.

Aspirations

I aspire to learn and improve upon many things musically, some of which include: using recording/studio equipment and programmes, learning new and unique techniques and methods for the instruments I play (such as using an acoustic guitar percussively) and improving my vocal range and ability.

Always having goals and aspirations is something I make an effort to do. This is so I can expand my general musical knowledge in order to gain: more opportunities in the music industry, possibilities to specialise in specific jobs/roles and confidence in making a career choice.

About Me

My main instrument is the bass guitar, however I do have some basic knowledge of the piano/keys and acoustic guitar. Over the years my confidence has grown to a point where I now sing harmonics in a band and have started to create my own songs on the acoustic guitar.

My passion is Classic Rock. I’ve been playing for a few years now, mainly in guitar ensemble groups in school and for music festivals in small towns like Dartmouth.

Experiences

My musical experiences include playing at music festivals during school. Here I performed in a small class band, playing the bass guitar and at times the piano. I’ve also taken graded exams for the bass, receiving a merit for grade 1 and a pass for grade 2. I've also done gigs in small pubs around the bay.

Influences

The main person who has influenced me musically is the bass guitarist from the band ‘Red Hot Chili Peppers’, otherwise known as Flea. I find the way how he plays ,using the slap technique as if it is his second nature, so interesting.

Aspirations

University is a possibility for me, I’ve not really thought about it that much as I’m pretty laid-back about it. Career-wise I reckon I would enjoy being a session musician as it gives me the chance to perform in many different genres and with so many other talented people. However, if i was to get the chance to take my music elsewhere I would jump straight into it.
